Are there any ingredients I should avoid using with retinol?Updated a year ago
You don’t need to avoid anything specific while using retinol, but you’ll want to introduce new products carefully and watch out for signs of irritation or over-exfoliation, such as redness, tightness, or flaking.
There is a lot of outdated information out there suggesting that you shouldn’t combine retinol with certain ingredients when, in reality, combining retinoids with AHAs, vitamin C, niacinamide, or benzoyl peroxide often leads to better results.
To maximize the efficacy of your retinol, we recommend using it at night before any other leave-on products.
